Anambra: IG deploys helicopter, special force for gov poll.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered a massive deployment of police striking force, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, the Bomb Disposal Unit and the Police Air Wing for the governorship poll in Anambra State on Saturday. Abubakar also directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, in charge of the ‘B’ Department, Philemon Leha, to relocate to Awka, Anambra State, and coordinate all security operations for the election. A statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba in Abuja on Wednesday said aerial surveillance and patrols would be provided by the Police Air Wing with the support of the Air Force, while all water ways would be patrolled by the Force Marine department, supported by the Navy. The IG ordered the policemen involved in election duty to ensure that they work in line with the Police Code of Conduct and international best standards. He cautioned policemen attached to VIPs and politicians involved in the election to comport themselves in a professional manner, stressing that officers found breaching their oath of office would be brought to book. “The IG has equally appealed to the good people of Anambra State, especially the aspirants, to peacefully conduct themselves within the confines and requirements of the law. He challenged them to lead by example by helping to maintain a civil and tranquil atmosphere devoid of harassment and tension,” the statement added.
